Art Carts
Project Chair: Sara Field
The Junior League of Abilene will provide age-appropriate, creative and individualized arts and craft activities to the children who are hospitalized at Meek Children's Hospital at Hendrick Medical Center or Abilene Regional Medical Center. Each volunteer will work with a child in his/her room for approximately 15 to 20 minutes and the child will get to keep all the supplies that were needed to create the project as well as the final project itself.

CHOOSE
Project Chair: Stacy Hammond
Creating Healthy Ongoing Options Starting Early - The goal of this project is to reduce the risk of childhood obesity, a nationwide epidemic, by implementing a public health strategy that mobilizes students, families, schools, and communities to create opportunities to choose lifestyles that promote healthy weight. A Junior League Committee of 15 women will present 3 programs during the school year to second graders on 10 campuses in AISD. Puppets will be used to communicate positively with the students, teaching them the importance of making healthy choices. Curriculum will be provided to the teachers for follow-up lessons and activities in the classroom, and the students will be provided with literature to take home to their families. At the end of the year, the Junior League will host a family event at the Abilene Zoo. There will be games, activities, healthy snacks, and of course, the animals. This project has the support of the AISD Health Advisory Committee and much of the medical community.
